The SAFE-N-MEDTECH project comes to an end after 4 years of work. The main objective of the project has been to build an innovative open access platform to offer companies and reference laboratories the capabilities, knowledge, networks, and services necessary for the development, evaluation, up-scaling and exploitation of the market for medical and diagnostic devices based in nanotechnology. During the project,
TECNAN has evaluate its coatings used successfully in other sectors and adapt them to the needs of the medical sector. Specifically, the viability of TECNAN coatings for their incorporation into medical devices that allow their reuse has been evaluated with very promising results. The coatings, based on nanotechnology and that have non-stick and protective properties against corrosion and wear, have been shown to create a barrier that prevents the generation of bacterial biofilm without incorporating any type of biocide.
28 partners from 13 different countries have participated in the SAFE-N-MEDTECH project, including research institutes, small and large companies, associations, experts in health technology assessment, hospitals, and care centres, guaranteeing that the project can cover all relevant aspects of the translation of medical technologies based on nanotechnology. The project coordination has been carried out by BIOEF and the technical coordination has been carried out by BIOKERALTY.
